The film ‘The Delinquents’ (Los delincuentes), directed by Rodrigo Moreno, premiered before the festival’s audience at the 52nd International Film Festival FEST as part of the Main Competition Programme in the packed hall of the Cultural Centre of Belgrade on 2 March 2024.
After the premiere, Argentinian actress Margarita Molfino presented the film ‘The Delinquents’ to the audience and had a short conversation with the fans of the seventh art.
Only a few hours before the Belgrade premiere, the Argentinian presented the film to the accredited journalists of the 52nd FEST. According to the synopsis, Buenos Aires bank clerk Morán devises a plan to get himself and his colleague Román out of work by stealing money from the bank to finance their retirement.
‘When I got the script, I thought that it was a great text. Then I met the director Moreno, and considering that I knew his filmography, I was really delighted that he invited me,’ stated Margarita Molfino.
As she said, he is a director who gives the actors a lot of freedom. ‘Moreno is a director who really gives a lot of freedom to the actors even though he wrote everything in
the script, on the other hand he controls everything, but he also knows the underground theatre in Buenos Aires and uses it in his films,’ says Molfino.
As she pointed out, she has a female role in a typically male story. ‘Even though this is a male film at first glance, what I like is that the film itself shows men's vulnerability
and their essence. In the age of feminism, when it is a bit overemphasized, these two men are shown in
a different light, and I, as a female character, help them in that,’ said the Argentinian. ‘The Delinquents’ won numerous awards: the Golden Hugo for Best Feature Film in Chicago, the Grand Prix for Best Film in Ghent, a Special Mention in Jerusalem, the Best Director, Best Cinematography and
Best Editing awards at the festival in Havana and the Best Feature Film Jury Award in Philadelphia. As the actress stated, the film did quite well in Argentina. ‘It is a kind of homage to film and the cinema that has been a little forgotten, and this tribute to a real cinema film in these post-pandemic times is a great new beginning,’ Molfino concluded. In addition to Margarita Molfino, in the film, which is a co-production of Argentina, Luxembourg, Brazil and Chile, the cast includes: Daniel Elías, Esteban Bigliardi, German De Silva, Laura Paredes, Mariana Chaud, Cecilia Rainero, Javier Zoro Sutton, Gabriela Saidon and others.
