HIROKAZU KORE-EDA

Hirokazu Koreeda born 1962 in Tokyo, Japan. After graduating from Waseda University in 1987, Koreeda joined TV Man Union where he directed several prize winning documentary programs. His directorial debut, Maborosi (1995), won the 52nd Venice International Film Festival’s Golden Osella for Cinematographu. After Life (1998), distributed in over 30 countries, brought Koreeda internationally acclaimed. Distance (2001) was selected in Competition at Cannes with his fourth work Nobody Knows (2004, Best Actor Award). Air Doll (2009) was world premiered at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard. I Wish (2011) won the Best Screenplay Award at the 59th San Sebastian International Film Festival. Like Father, Like Son (2013) winning the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, but Shoplifters (2018) won the Palme d’Or at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.
