When she arrives at the Elysée Palace, Bernadette Chirac expects to finally obtain the place she deserves, she who has always worked in the shadow of her husband so that he becomes president. Sidelined because she was considered too old-fashioned, Bernadette then decided to take her revenge by becoming an essential media figure.

LEA DOMENAK / LÉA DOMENACH
Léa Domenach (Paris, 1983), daughter of two prominent French political journalists, studied film at Columbia University. Afterwards, she co-directed her first documentary about social workers while also making corporate films to gain production experience. A series about the backstage milieu of stand-up comedy and a documentary about her grandfather followed. Her first feature, Bernadette (2023), dedicated to the former French First Lady and wife of ex president Jacques Chirac, is a mix of oddball biopic and political satire.
Reveiws:
Deneuve portrays Bernadette as Chirac’s haughty but outspoken first lady, who has long endured her husband’s endless affairs.
